Kuto

Kuto’s life no. 678

Kuto was nervous. He had never been so far from home before, and he wasn't sure what to expect in the United Arab Emirates. Everything he had seen in movies and on TV made it look like a dangerous place, full of terrorists and criminals.

He tried to tell himself that it wasn't all bad, that there were probably plenty of good people here too. But it was hard to stay positive when his stomach was churning with anxiety.

He clutched his backpack tightly as he walked through the airport, looking around warily. He saw a few men who looked like they might be Arabs, but most of the people here seemed to be westerners like him. That was a relief, at least.

Eventually he found his way outside into the heat of the day. The sun beat down on him mercilessly, making him sweat even though he was wearing shorts and a tank top. He wished he had brought sunglasses; the bright light was giving him a headache.
