Kuto

Kuto’s life no. 237

"Kuto, come here," Sierra Leone called out to her son as he played in the dirt with his friends. Kuto turned and ran towards his mother, a big smile on his face.

"Yes, Mama?" he said breathlessly.

"I need you to help me carry some water from the well," she said, handing him a black bucket hat to put on his head. "It's going to be hot today."

Kuto nodded eagerly and took the bucket from his mother. His hair was carrot-colored and stuck out in all directions under the hat. He had a Balbo beard that made him look like he was always scowling, but when he smiled, as he did now, it lit up his whole face. He was wearing a grey hoodie that was too big for him and hung down almost to his knees. It was one of Sierra's favorites because it had been her husband's before he died.
